the beginnings of wimbledon fashion//

1921 Suzanne Lenglen. wins wimbledon in a pleated dress by the french designer jean patou. the gallic trend setter was also known for her turbans.

1939 Alice Marble. raises hemlines further with a pair of flannel shorts.

1949 Gussie Moran. flashes her lace trimmed knickers beneath her dress to the horror/amusment of her audience.

1977 Virginia Wade lifts the singles trophy wearing a rather fetching pink cardigan to match the queens outfit. well. it was the silver jubilee and did also feature the ornately monogrammed letters 'VW'. beauty.

1985 Anne White. accused of distracting her opponent pam shriver, in her unique all in one lycra number.

and what have ralph lauren brought onto the court this year?

The new (well nearly new) and improved uniforms.

i am as always truely inspired and in love with these illistrations.

stella mcartney herself has once again designed a really strong collection which i am sure will be on the backs or some world class players again this season. in love with the floral cut dress. the pink neon can just be seen which will add a great touch when running around the court.

this season lacoste has joined forces with parisian illistrator marie perron. the collection titled// me and my croco, pulls inspiration from the brands main symbols. the tennis racket and crocodile. in perfect time for wimbledon. i'm pretty sure that i'll have to track one of these down.

i love watching wimbledon every year so stay tunned for the fashion do's and don'ts along with anything else i happen to write ;)
